SSA in GCC

NaturalBridge is currently participating in the development and
integration of new static single assignment (SSA) optimizations into
the Gnu Compiler Collection (GCC). GCC is an open source compiler that
has been in use since the early 1990's. It is used as the system
compiler by virtually all Unix implementations as well as many
embedded applications. However, the GCC was the last big compiler
without SSA optimizations. We have been supporting the retrofitting
of SSA into this compiler. Our role has been to identify problems
with the current optimization architecture as well as to design and
implement new optimization algorithms.
